I think the idea of starting a blog started when I was talking to my friend Jessica about some crazy date I had been on. She said, "Rach, you have to start a blog. This is so entertaining!" While I don't always find my stories entertaining, I guess some of my friends do? I've thrown the idea around for a few months but kept feeling oddly narcissistic about the whole thing. Who wants to go to a web page created by me and about me? On the other hand, I started to think of it as a creative outlet. Possibly a way to share some of the random things I stumble upon during my extremely productive non-working hours (very sarcastic here). Again, though, this sharing can also be construied as narcissistic.
Well, at this point, as a matter of boredom, I've decided to say what the hell, I'll explore this 'blog world.' I had an unfortunate incident at a concert that left me with a bum foot. As a result, I have missed quite a lot of work and have spent a great deal too many hours sitting on my ass. I am definitely not envying the unemployed these days. But as a result, I have had lots of free time to discover new music, new restaurants, new websites and even go on a pretty sweet first date (with a very attractive orthopedic boot).
Ok, a few of my new finds
1. First of all, I have discovered my love for the Seattle Public Library. How had I gone 3 years here without using this resource?? 50 items at a time of books, sweet music and dvds! Too bad the budget made them have a furlow during my bum foot time...
2. Some of my new favorite music: Andrew Bird, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Devotchka, The Cave Singers and Neil Young.
3. http://www.warbyparker.com/ Although I have not bought glasses from this website, their business idea looks amazing! Quality, affordable and adorable glasses. And they donate a pair of glasses to someone in need with every purchase.
4. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ Just love looking at everyone's creativity.
5. Roosevelt Ale House. Sweet bar with tons of great beer and, as it appears so far, many attractive male patrons
So I guess I have entered the world I have always made fun of. Laugh at me (and with me) and hopefully you'll find some enjoyment in my narcissism.
And by the way, please excuse my poor spelling. Always my weakness.
And you can thank me for the Seattle Public Library idea. It rocks!
